Keith Brave Heart
Exhibition

Keith Brave Heart's first solo exhibition, "Stepping on the Stars, Reaching for the Sun" , is on display at the Bruce H. Lien Cultural Cafe and Gallery, M-F 10am-6pm, and and Sat. 12 noon-5pm. He was interviewed about his work by Rapid City artist Denise Du Broy.
Q: Where are you from, and where do you live?
Brave Heart: I was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico but my father's family is from here in South Dakota. They are from Kyle on the Pine Ridge Reservation and I have been back and forth my whole life. I've lived in both places.
Q: How old are you. How long have you been painting?
Brave Heart: I'm twenty-five and I've been painting for six years.
Q: Where did you study art and painting?
Brave Heart: I didn't get into art until after I graduated high school. I was accepted into the Oscar Howe Institute in Vermillion. That was the summer right before I enrolled in the Institute of American Indian Arts down in Santa Fe. I didn't know nothing about art, but I just tried it out, and went down there, and just kept going with it. That's where I studied. And I studied one year at the University of South Dakota.
